A Snapchat streak or Snapstreak shows how many days in a row you’ve constantly sent video or photo snaps to a particular friend.
Snapchat is a social media platform that allows users to send and receive snaps (photos or videos). One of the most remarkable features of the Snapchat app is that once you view a snap, it vanishes.
This app does have some other interesting features, one of which is the Snapchat streak. You’ll learn more about what a Snapchat streak is.

What Is a Snapchat Streak?
A Snapchat streak happens when two friends on Snapchat have constantly sent each other Snaps for over 3 consecutive days. When you begin a Snapstreak with a friend, a fire emoji will appear next to their name. And the number beside the fire emoji shows how long the Snapstreak has been ongoing.
Snapchat will alert you when any of your Snapstreaks wants to end by displaying an hourglass emoji beside that friend’s name. However, if one of your Snapstreaks end and you know that you & your friend snapped yourselves constantly within 24 hours, you can report such an error to Snapchat.
It could sound silly to report a falsely expired Snapstreak to Snapchat. But it’s a strong sign of friendship for some teens.
How to See Your Snapstreaks
A Snapchat streak displays next to your friend’s name in your Chats tab. It is represented by a flame 🔥 emoji. And the flame emoji may or may not be accompanied by other Snapchat emojis that mean different things about your friendship.
As your Snapstreaks increase, a number will be displayed next to the flame emoji. This number indicates the number of days you’ve kept your Snapstreak ongoing. For example, if you keep your Snapstreak ongoing for 100 days, the red hundred đź’Ż points emoji will display next to the flame emoji.
How To Keep Your Snapstreak Going
To keep your Snapchat streak going, you and your friend must exchange video or photo snaps within a 24-hour window. It has to be a combined effort. The reason is that, if you keep sending snaps and your friend does not, your Snapstreak will vanish. And you’ll have to start afresh!
You don’t have to keep track of your 24-hour window. Snapchat will notify you (by displaying an hourglass emoji next to your friend’s name when your time is about to elapse) that you need to snap yourselves soon.

Interactions That Don’t Count Toward Your Snapstreaks
You can interact with friends in various ways on Snapchat. However, most of them do not count toward your Snapstreaks. They include:
Chatting: You can click on any friend’s name on Snapchat to begin a chat with them. But it won’t count toward your Snapstreaks.
Posting Stories: When your friends view the stories you post, it will not contribute to the Snapstreaks you have with any of those friends that viewed your story.
Sending snaps to a group: If you think that the snaps you send to a group of friends would contribute to your Snapstreaks, sorry it won’t! To keep your Snapstreaks ongoing, you have to send snaps to those friends individually.
Sending Snaps from Memories: Snaps that you previously took and saved in Memories or the ones you uploaded from your device won’t count. This is especially if you send them within the 24-hour window, probably because they were saved from a different time.
Sharing Content Through Snapchat Spectacles: If you just got Spectacles, you may begin to feel like a pro snapchatter. But no, the video you record and share through these Spectacles does not contribute to your Snapstreaks.
How to Share Your Snapstreaks With Your Friends Using Filters and Stickers
Snapchat has many interesting features to encourage your friends to respond on time with a snap to keep your Snapstreaks ongoing. So, here’s how to share your Snapstreaks with your friends using filters and stickers:
Snapstreak filters: In your conversations tab, double-tap on your friend’s name. Take a snap and begin to swipe right or left through the filters. If you have a Snapstreak filter ongoing with that specific friend, you’ll be shown a filter having your Snapstreak in bold white numbers and the flame emoji.
Snapstreak Bitmoji stickers: If you’ve linked Snapchat to your Bitmoji account, then double-tap on your friend’s name (from your conversations tab). Then click on the sticker icon to view Snapstreak stickers showing your Bitmoji and your friend’s own (if they have).
If you don’t see Snapchat streak stickers at the top, just go to the search field and type in “streak” or “snapstreak” to see all the available stickers. Click on anyone to use it on your snap.
How To Restore Lost Snapchat Streaks?
Snapstreaks could break, unfortunately. If you happen to experience such, follow these steps to restore your lost Snapchat streak:
- Go to the Snapchat app, click on Bitmoji and tap the Settings option in the upper right corner.
- Navigate to the Support section or go to the Snapchat support website.
- Select the I Need Help option.
- Choose the My Snap Streaks disappeared option from the various available options.
- You will be asked to fill out a form to get Snapchat’s help.
- Immediately you fill in your details, provide the CAPTCHA, then send.
- Once you receive an email from Snapchat’s representative, you can restore your streaks.
Bottom Line
A Snapchat streak is one fun way to build and keep your friendship. Snapstreaks are represented by a flame emoji. And if you keep a Snapstreak for 100 days, the red hundred emoji will display beside the flame emoji. But if you lose your streaks, you can reach out to the Snapchat support team to help you recover them.
