Why is my iPhone Flashlight Not Working?

There are a variety of reasons the iPhone flashlight feature may not work. A software issue or glitch often causes the function to stop working, but it could be because you’re not in the correct power mode or require a battery. Sometimes, the reason is only revealed when you apply the right fix.

How to Fix the iPhone Flashlight Not Working

Here is how to fix the iPhone flashlight not working;

1. Restart iPhone

The first thing you should explore to resolve the issue when the flashlight ceases to work for or on your iPhone is to restart it.

This solution is useful, particularly in cases where the flashlight has been disabled due to a low battery or when you encounter an error message such as “iPhone must be charged to use the flashlight,” even though your phone is already fully charged.

Rebooting the iPhone will enable the flashlight to operate normally again.

2. Charge iPhone

If the battery of your iPhone is very insufficient, it’s possible that the flashlight could be inactive or appear greyed out. You should recharge your iPhone to a minimum of 20%, then reboot the phone to resolve your iPhone flashlight not working problem.

3. Switch Off the Low Power Mode

Sometimes, even the Low Power mode, particularly when battery levels are running low, may be why the flashlight on the iPhone isn’t functioning. To fix the issue, switch off low power mode by clicking the Settings menu > Battery > Low power mode.

4. Increase the Brightness of the Flashlight

Having no flashlight brightness is among the main reasons behind the iPhone flashlight not working.

iPhone flashlight works with the current brightness setting. If you accidentally reduce the flashlight’s brightness to a minimum level, it won’t work when you turn it on the next time.

To resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Control Center on your iPhone.
  2. Hold and press the flashlight tile until you can see an indicator for the flashlight.
  3. Slide the slider up to increase the brightness of your flashlight. The flashlight will then start working.

5. Close Other Applications

If the flashlight symbol is grayed out within Control Center, it’s because certain apps can connect to the Camera.

It is necessary to close any app which uses the Camera. This includes apps that use Camera, for example, the Camera’s native app, Instagram, Snapchat, and so on.

To close applications, open the latest apps screen (by swiping up). After that, swipe the apps you want to delete from the screen. A helpful method is to close all open applications.

6. Cool Down the Phone

One of the leading causes of the iPhone flashlight not working is that the phone is overheated.

This could be because of the external temperature, extended time in direct sun, or other tasks that require a lot of energy, such as playing intense games.

You must cool your device by closing all applications and then allowing it to stay idle for a short period.

7. Add Flashlight in Control Center

If you do not find the torch icons in the Control Center or it is disabled, you have to add them using the following steps.

  1. Open Settings and then go into Control Center.
  2.  If the torch icon isn’t visible in Control Center, scroll down to the More controls section and tap an Add (+) icon next to Torch. Open Control Center, and you’ll be able to see an icon for the Torch. Click it to activate the flashlight.
  3. If the Torch icon is already inside the Control Center, tap on the Minus (-) symbol in front of the Torch beneath the Included Controls section. Scroll down and tap on the Add (+) sign next to Torch to add it back.

8. Turn the Camera Flash on and off

When the flashlight turns off in Control Center, the quickest solution is to turn the flash off and on within the Camera app. To do this, open the Camera app on your iPhone and tap the Flash icon. Select On and then off.

9. Change the Flash Setting in the Camera App

If the flashlight only functions intermittently within the Camera app, it could be set to Auto. As you would expect, the Auto setting turns on the flash periodically based on when the Camera determines that it needs it.

If you would like the flashlight to remain active, you have to change the setting for the flash. To do this, launch your Camera app and then tap the Flash icon. Instead of Auto, select On.

10. Enable LED Flash for Alerts

Switching off the LED flash for alerts is among the reasons behind the iPhone flashlight not working. Do you receive flash notifications about incoming calls? The setting that is associated with it may be off by accident. To turn it back on:

  1. Go to Settings> Accessibility > Audio/Visual.
  2. Turn on the toggle next to the LED flash for alerts.
  3. If it’s already turned on, turn it off and turn it back on.
  4. Turn off Focus

11. Update Phone

Sometimes the flashlight ceases to work on iPhone after an update. It could be because of an issue in the currently installed iOS version. You should update the most recent version as quickly as possible to remedy it.

To do this, go to Settings > General > Software updates. Install the update if it’s available.

12. Contact Apple support

If you have tried all the solutions listed above and the flashlight is still not working, it might be an issue with the hardware, and you should get in touch with Apple or take your phone to a certified repair shop.

Bottomline

Hopefully, your iPhone flashlight is back to normal. If a software malfunction causes the issue, a complete reset or software updates are much more than capable of fixing the problem.

However, calling a reputable iPhone repair center or Apple support is the best way to go if the issue is due to a hardware issue.
